Rosularia (DC.) Stapf, Bot. Mag. 149: t. 8985. 1923; Fl. China @ eFloras.org 8: 217; Fl. Pak. @ eFloras.org Pakistan V: 209; Aswal & Mehrotra, Fl. Lahaul- Spiti 253. 1994; Umbilicus sect. Rosularia DC., Prodr. 3: 339. 1882.

Perennial herb, usually hairy. Rootstocks usually fleshy. Roots thin, fibrous or thick tap root. Leaves mostly in dense basal rosettes, usually with several rosettes per plant, alternate, sessile, flat, fleshy, oblong, spathulate, obovate, elliptic, linear, attenuate at base, entire. Flowering stems often several, arising from the axils of rosette leaves (or solitary and arising from centre of rosette), usually unbranched, erect or ascending, glandular hairy or glabrous, deciduous. Cauline leaves fleshy, simple, alternate, sessile, oblong to spathulate, entire, glandular hairy or glabrous. Inflorescence terminal or lateral, cymose corymbose, paniculate corymbose, lax thyrse, lax to dense, sometimes solitary. Flowers bisexual, +/- actinomorphic, 5-9-merous, glandular hairy or glabrous, campanulate or funnelform, sessile or pedicellate. Calyx campanulate, sepals connate at base, lobes green, fleshy. Corolla pink or white, sometimes with red or purple markings, campanulate or cupulate; limb erect or spreading, membranous, lobes partly connate at base (1/10-3/4 of their length). Stamens 2 times as many as petals (10-18), in 2 whorls, inserted above corolla base, about 2 times as long as petals, anthers basifixed. Nectar scales cuneate to cuneate-spathulate to quadrate, apex rounded or truncate. Carpels superior, sessile, erect, free but connate at base, often hairy. Follicles erect, free, many-seeded. Seeds oblong-ellipsoidal brown with longitudinal striae.

Rosularia rosulata (Edgew.) H. Ohba, J. Jap. Bot. 52(1): 9. 1977; H. Hara & L.H.J. Williams, Enum. Fl. Pl. Nepal 2: 163. 1979; H. Ohba, J. Fac. Sci. Tokyo 3. 12(6): 349. 1980; Eggli in Bradleya 6, Suppl.: 80. 1988; Fl. Pak. @eFloras.org Pakistan V: 209.

Perennial herb, stoloniferous, rosulate, ca. 4.5 cm long and up to 6 cm in diameter. Leaves rosulate, sessile, obovate, apex round, apiculate or mucronate, entire, 2.5-3 cm x 1.1-1.3 cm, glabrous, succulent. Flowering stem (stoloniferous) 7-10 cm high (including rosulate leaves), deciduous. Cauline leaves alternate, sessile, similar to rosulate leaves but smaller, 1.2-1.7 cm x 6-8 mm. Inflorescence terminal, reduced panicle or thyrse or raceme, 3-9 flowered. Flowers bisexual, actinomorphic, 5-merous, small, 1.5 cm long and 2 cm across, star-shaped, glabrous; pedicels up to 1.7 cm long. Calyx campanulate, 9-10 mm long; sepals 5, connate at base, lobes ovate, ovate-oblong, fleshy, acute, 8-9 mm x ca. 4 mm, pale green tinged with purple red. Corolla campanulate, petals 5, connate at base 2-2.5 mm from base, 1.4-1.5 cm x ca. 4 mm, lanceolate, acuminate, white, adaxially upper half tinged purplish-red, abaxially slightly tinged, membranous. Stamens 10, in 2 whorls, outer whorl opposite to petals and adnate to basal 1/3rd of petal, inner alternate and adnate to petals at base; filaments ca. 5 mm long in outer whorl, ca. 7 mm long in inner whorl, gradually dilated towards base; anthers oblong, 1 mm long, basifixed. Nectar scales reniform. Carpels 5, superior, free, connate at base, ca. 0.5-1 mm x 0.5-1 mm; ovaries asymmetrically ellipsoid, broader in centre, unilocular with many ovules on parietal placentas; style slender, small; stigma capitate. Follicles 5, erect, free. Seeds 0.6-0.7 mm x 0.3-0.4 mm, ellipsoid or oblong, small, brown.
